Paint Blending in Seattle

A great patch shows up in the paint. We blend color and texture so the repaired area disappears into the wall — even in raking light.

What we don't do

We're disciplined about staying in our trade. For these, we refer you to a specialist rather than do it poorly:

  • × Whole-house exterior painting
  • × Cabinet refinishing
  • × Trim-only repainting (we paint trim when we're already in the room)
  • × Specialty finishes (Venetian plaster, faux finishes, lime wash)

Why paint blending matters in the PNW light

Seattle homes get a specific kind of low, diffuse natural light for most of the year. That kind of light is unforgiving on patches. A patch that would look invisible in a sunny Phoenix kitchen will show as a slightly different color or sheen here, because the light comes in at a flat angle and grazes the wall instead of hitting it straight on. That's why we offer paint blending as an add-on to nearly every repair.

Paint match is two problems, not one. First is color match — your wall was probably painted 5-10 years ago, and even if you have the original paint code, that paint has aged, sun-bleached, and shifted slightly. We pull a chip from a hidden spot (behind a switch plate works) and color-match to that, not to your paint code. Second is sheen match — a flat finish next to an eggshell finish will read as a different color even when the pigment is identical. We always match sheen.

For the high-design Seattle homes we work in (Madison Park, Magnolia, Queen Anne), full-wall blends are common. The cost is a multiplier on the patch tier price, but the result is a wall where you genuinely cannot find the repair under any lighting. For rental turnovers or basements where the wall finish is less critical, a spot blend often does the job.

Common questions about paint blending

Will my drywall patch be invisible after paint blending?

Under normal lighting, yes — a properly blended patch reads as continuous wall. Under raking light (low angle from a window) some patches might show texture slightly, but color and sheen will match. We're honest about which scenario your project is — some lighting conditions are kinder to spot blends than others.

Do you need my original paint code to match?

Helpful but not required. If you have the paint code, we'll start there. If not, we'll color-match from a chip we peel from a hidden spot (behind a switch plate, inside a closet). Color match from a chip is usually MORE accurate than the original code, since paint ages and shifts.

How does paint blending pricing work?

It's a multiplier on the drywall patch tier price. Spot blend is 2.0× the tier — so a Small patch ($399) with spot blend is $399 × 2.0 = $798. Full-wall blend is 2.25×. Corner-to-corner full repaint is 2.5×. We offer this as an option on every quote, never a surprise add-on.

Can I paint over your patch myself instead?

Yes — that's the cheaper path. We leave the patch fully cured, sanded smooth, and primer-ready. You buy a quart of matching paint, roll it on, and you're done. We're happy to recommend that if your wall paint is fresh and matching is easy.
